Learn To Knit
Casting On: Cable Cast On This is an important cast on to learn. You will find it very useful when you need to cast on stitches at the end of a row or to cast them on over stitches that you have bound off (such as a buttonhole). It has a very nice decorative edge that looks like a cable. If you are casting on to begin your project, start with a slip knot on the left needle.
Place your right needle into the loop (if you are already familiar with how to knit, insert the needle as if to knit).
Wrap your yarn around the right needle just as if you were going to knit it and pull this loop loop through the loop on the needle. Place this new loop or stitch on the left needle. If you continue in this way, you will be working The Knit Cast On. It is a looser method of casting on.
Now for the actual part of the cast on that is essential to this method. Insert your right needle between the last two stitches on the left needle.
Wrap the yarn around the right needle just like you were going to knit it.
Pull the loop through and place this new stitch on the left needle. Continue until you have cast on the number of stitches you need.
