Lion Brand® LB Collection® Baby Alpaca

GAUGE:

29 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) over Color Pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

HAT
With smaller needle and A, cast on 140 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd and join, being careful not to twist sts.
Work in K2, P2 Rib worked in the rnd for 5 in. (12.5 cm).
Change to larger needle.
Next Rnd: Knit to last 2 sts, knit 2 sts together – 139 sts at end of this rnd.
Beg with Rnd 1 of pattern, work in Color Pattern until piece measures about 11 1/2 in. (29 cm) from beg, end with Rnd 1 of Color Pattern.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail of A. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.

FINISHING
Cord
Cut a 40 in. (101.5 cm) length of A and fold in half. Slip folded end over a doorknob and knot remaining end. Slip a knitting needle or pencil through the knotted end. Turn the needle to twist the strands clockwise until they are tightly twisted. Keeping the strands taut, fold the piece in half, remove the needle and allow the Cord to twist on itself.
With Cord on WS of Hat, pull each end of Cord separately through to RS at top Hat. Knot ends to secure Cord to top of Hat. Knot each end of Cord, about 2 in. (5 cm) from end. Allow ends to untwist below knots. Weave in ends.
